Baldur's Gate 3 gives the same problem several possible solutions. The character you create, the companions you trust and the terrain around a fight can all affect what happens next. Its turn-based format provides space to consider those choices instead of relying on reflexes alone.
Use the environment as part of the plan. Positioning and verticality can be as valuable as a direct attack. Shoving, ambushing, traps and elemental interactions create opportunities to turn a difficult encounter around. The Dungeons & Dragons foundation gives those actions rules and consequences while the game handles the dice and calculations for you.
Let relationships influence the journey. Choose an Origin Character or create a custom protagonist, then build a party of companions with their own motivations. Conversations, decisions and relationships can open routes or burn bridges. The campaign follows the consequences of those choices across the Forgotten Realms rather than presenting one fixed personality and path.
Let friends bring their own ideas. Two players can share a local split-screen adventure, or up to four can form an online party. Dialogue choices, loot and plans become things to discuss rather than decisions made by one player alone. Cooperation can produce a carefully organized group or a much less predictable journey through the same story.
